My first post. Yay!

No Knead Bread

For about a year now, I have been working 3 days a week. The idea is that I need to find an alternate vent for my creative energies.( A space where I am just me, I am my boss, what I do is fuelled by no reason except that I cannot not do it.) Unfortunately this year had been full of distractions …cooking..

, cooking, eating, shifting again… reading about food and COOKING.

You see, food is the one thing  attention defected(is that a word?) me cannot stop paying attention to. Thats the one constant in my variable life. Cooking and eating and reading about food.  Atul accuses my cooking of being the reason he isn’t able to shed weight. I think he looks absolutely fine. Perhaps my objectivity maybe a teeny-weeny bit marred because I love to watch him eat what I cook. Any resolution to the contrary upsets my best laid plans…. (The first time Atul came to my house I made chocolate chip muffins just before he was leaving. Just in time.. fragrant in the oven but not really done or ready to eat yet. I didn’t ask him if we would meet again… He came back as soon as he was done with work… And you know the rest. I am not about to give up that strategy in a hurry! :P)

For years now I have been following food blogs from across the world. Before there were food blogs, I used to hide recipe books in my school books so my mom wouldn’t know I was reading recipes instead of studying. Since I can remember I have always been in some desperate need to cook the current thing that’s driving me nuts..whatever gets its way into my head and doesn’t let me think straight till ive read enough about it and cooked it and eaten it. Images, articles, recipes on food blogs entrap me and don’t let me rest in peace till I give in. So I give in and cook my way to release.

Cooking in Bombay is a unique and lovely experience. It’s a bit like solving an intense mystery. Finding the right link to the right location where you find the right ingredient. Chasing down alternates for techniques and implements we don’t get here… and finally solving the mystery in the kitchen. And its only then that you get to see what the whole thing is about. What the culprit looks like, feels like, tastes like… and its only after that the case is closed.

So I finally realized that it’s perhaps my creative energies around food that need refuge. Besides, its time I paid back to the world of food that I thrive on. So, on Bombay Chow-party I get to share what I obsess about and you get a shortcut to solve the mystery. I can have you all, my lovely (hopefully not imaginary) readers, to share and discuss what we cook, what we want to cook, what we want to eat,  …and the big lovely chow party that living and loving in Bombay is. And maybe, if I am really lucky, you may give me the opportunity to invite you to the scene of the crime?
